Tribute to Andy Snook

09 September 2025

Last week the community of south‑west Sydney lost a genuine legend and real life hero, Andy Snook. Andy dedicated himself to reuniting lost pets with their families across Fairfield, Liverpool and Canterbury-Bankstown. Time and again when a frightened animal was spotted on the street, people knew exactly what to do: Get in contact with Andy. I cannot count the number of times I saw his name tagged on Facebook posts from across the area, especially in my electorate of Leppington. Without fail he would appear—with a scanner in hand, a calm voice and a gentle presence—and bring that animal safely home. Andy's extraordinary contribution was recognised with a plaque at Prout Park's off-leash dog area in 2018 and he was named Fairfield City Citizen of the Year in 2020. In 2022 Liverpool City Council honoured Andy with an Order of Liverpool Award for his outstanding service. He leaves behind his wife, Daphne, and a community who will never forget the love and generosity he showed not only to animals but also to those who cherish them. Rest peacefully, Andy. Your legacy will live on for a very long time.
