Marking 30 years since the Srebrenica genocide, I was honoured to attend two deeply moving commemorations organised by the Consulate of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sydney. It was a tragic event that must always be remembered with honesty and respect. On 5 July, I joined the screening of Quo Vadis, Aida? at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre - a powerful film that speaks directly to the human cost of conflict. The event also featured a commemorative exhibition and reflections on the recent adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution on the Srebrenica Genocide. On 11 July, I stood alongside families, community members - Bosnian and non-Bosnian alike - who came together in solidarity for Srebrenica Remembrance Day at the Bosnian Cultural Centre in my electorate. The suffering experienced by the Bosnian Muslim community in Srebrenica was a profound tragedy that touched all of humanity. It is our collective duty to ensure history is never repeated and uphold every person's right to live in peace, safety, and dignity.
