It was a privilege to attend the grand opening of the new Mar Yosip Community Hall in Leppington on Sunday alongside the Prime Minister, the member for Werriwa, the member for McMahon and the Assyrian community to celebrate a very important milestone for the community and my growing region. The Assyrian community has made an immense contribution to south-western Sydney across social, cultural and economic life. The new centre will provide a place for people to come together for many generations to come. The centre was made possible through a Federal Government grant. It gives the Mar Yosip parish a dedicated space in which to host spiritual, cultural and community activities from youth programs and educational classes to celebrations, support services and community events as well as the Sunday service. I congratulate His Eminence Mar Meelis Zaia, the St Yosip Parish, and everyone involved in this project, which is a very important milestone indeed.
