After years of neglect under the Liberals and Nationals, the Minns Labor Government is continuing to invest in public education so every family can access a quality local public school.

NEW PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL FOR AUSTRAL

I'm pleased the 2026–27 NSW Budget is delivering two new public schools for Austral as part of a $4.1 billion investment in new and upgraded schools across Western Sydney. Planning is now underway for:

A New High School:

  • Opening: Day 1, Term 1, 2029
  • Location: Ninth Avenue 
  • Will cater for 2,000 students with 87 classrooms, 7 support learning classrooms, a library, specialist facilities, a multipurpose hall, playing fields and improved traffic infrastructure. 

A New Public School and Pre-School:

  • Opening: Day 1, Term 1, 2029
  • Location: Fifth Avenue
  • Will cater for 1,000 students and include a co-located public preschool, 44 classrooms, 3 support learning classrooms, a library, multipurpose hall and sports facilities.

LEPPINGTON HIGH SCHOOL

With construction progressing very well, we are on track for Leppington High School to officially open Day 1, Term 1, 2027.

The new school will include:

  • Modern classrooms and specialist support classrooms for up to 1,000 students
  • A muti-purpose hall for sports and performance, sports and recreation facilities
  • Specialist workshops for science, wood and metal work, food technology, music and visual arts
  • Sports courts, playing field and landscaping
  • A covered outdoor learning area (COLA), a library, canteen and administration facilities.

SCHOOL UPGRADES - ALMOST COMPLETE!

Construction is also well underway for the following Public Schools, with Stage 1 due to open in 2027 and Stage 2 in early 2029.

  • Austral Public School - $30M - 20 new classrooms, 3 new support learning classrooms, upgrade and refurbishment of administration facilities, and a new staff car park.
  • Leppington Public School - $8.5M - 20 new permanent classrooms, 3 support learning classrooms, a new hall and upgraded library, and new COLA
  • Dalmeny Public School - $8.5M – new two-storey building with 16 classrooms, upgraded pick-up/drop-off
  • Greenway Park Public School - $5.9M – 8 new permanent classrooms

5 NEW FEE-FREE PRE-SCHOOLS

Due to open Day 1, Term 1 2027 at Eschol Park, Kearns, Robert Townson, Leppington and Greenway Park Public Schools.

The Minns Labor Government is getting on with the job of building more classrooms, hiring more teachers and lifting student outcomes across NSW to ensure local families have access to quality education close to home.
