Alongside the Member of Liverpool, Charishma Kaliyanda, and the Lao ambassador to Australia, Mr Chatoulong Mousisavath, I attended the annual Lao New Year Celebration hosted by the Lao Oz Language & Culture School. I was able to witness students receive blessings and ask for forgiveness in their participation in a 'Baci ceremony' and in the 'somma'. The non-profit school focuses upon supporting underprivileged primary schools, promoting Laos culture within Australia within their mission of preservation. The Lao community's dedication to the next generation, demonstrates their sense of loyalty, hard-work and commitment which flows through their school's students, ranging from kindergarten, all the way to Year 12. I would like to thank the volunteer parents and grandparents, the teachers and the board members of Lao-Oz Incorporated for making this event happen. May everyone enjoy a year of health and prosperity in the Lao New Year.
