What are the chances? In the round of 32 of the upcoming 2025 Australia Cup, Australia's premier annual national knockout football competition, two proud south-west Sydney clubs—Southern District Raiders Football Club [SD Raiders FC] and Macarthur Football Club [Macarthur FC]—have been drawn to play each other. This is a local derby no-one saw coming. Everyone is certainly excited for it. On one side we have Macarthur FC, which is the rising star of the A-League Men. It is the defending champion and a symbol of our region's growing sporting profile. On the other side we have SD Raiders FC, which is deeply rooted in our community. It has years of history and grassroots passion behind it. If Macarthur FC is the younger big brother, then SD Raiders FC is the older, smaller sibling. Who am I going to back? It honestly feels like picking a favourite child. I do not know. I hope they both go hard, play fair and keep the yellow cards in the referee's pocket. No matter who comes out on top, south-west Sydney football wins. I wish both teams the best. I look forward to watching the game next month.
