Member for Leppington, Nathan Hagarty, has welcomed Camden Council’s announcement of flood safety upgrades to the Anthony Road causeway in Catherine Fields.

The causeway on Anthony Road has wreaked havoc on residents for decades and is subject to regular flooding, leaving some residents trapped in their homes. It has been the cause of a fatality on at least one occasion.

Camden Council recently secured funding through the Federal Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), to initiate the design and implementation of flood safety enhancements for the Anthony Road causeway in Catherine Fields.

This project will include enhanced lighting, a flood sensor system, and signage upgrades.

Residents have raised the issue with Camden Council numerous times. Mr Hagarty first called on the Council to fix the 50-year-old causeway in March this year and he welcomes this result to improve safety and amenity in the local community.

Member for Leppington, Nathan Hagarty said:

“I welcome Camden Council’s announcement of upgrades to the Anthony Road causeway. This is a great win for the people of Catherine Fields, and all those who use our local roads.”

“With the rapid growth and development of our area, a half century-old causeway is no longer safe or appropriate. For too long, Anthony Road has been a danger for residents during heavy storms, which are more frequent than ever. It’s time to put the safety of the community first.”

“I thank community members for alerting me to this issue. Keeping our community safe and ensuring their well-being will always be a top priority for me.”
